Kumeyaay Ipai Center & Blue Sky Ecological Reserve

I was impressed by the trip of Kumeyaay, it is hard to imagine that a group of humans was living on the hill thousands of years ago. Nature is generous, and humans are wise. In the mountain, people can find herbs that can cure diseases and find fruits that can fill their stomachs. People build shelters there, make tools, process food. The traces they left allow us to understand this area from a historical and aesthetic level, and to understand the lives of the indigenous people.

Presidio Park

When I saw the fallen dead tree, I felt that it was incompatible with the bright green lawns and lush trees around it. I don’t know if this dead tree has anything to do with the events happened in this place, but the existence of this tree, its conflict with other scenery, makes me relate to the history of Presidio park. Mount Presidio was once occupied by the New Spain and Mexican forces. In my opinion, the significance of this picture is the fall of the old civilization and the beginning of a new civilization. In order to highlight the contrast, I usedPhotoshop to make the color of left part more vivid and I reduced the color of right part.

When people occupy a land, they usually leave some marks or set up fence to declare sovereignty. These fences remind me of the history of Presidio site, from a completely wild and free place, to a human subsidiary. I feel these enclosed places are cold and I cannot get close.

Panoramic Image of My Memory

Regarding my memory, the site that impressed me most was the small playground that I used to play Regarding my memory, the site that impressed me most was the small playground that I used to play with friends when I was a kid. The playground is in the neighborhood where I used to live. My partner and I used to go to that playground after school. I gradually don’t remember what the playground looks like and what my childhood friends looked like, but that memory was colorful and warm to me. That site is the shining spot in my memory.

10 of my most compelling images

I like to take pictures with simple subjects, and I also like taking close shots. When I photograph people, I prefer to show the connection between people and the environment.

5 images that represent my relationship to place

I like the ocean, I like the marine life. I love to travel and I often travel to places with oceans. I also like to make some wood carvings and small sculptures by myself. The last photo is a photo of me in the wood studio at school.

Photo Booth Project

I was going to Double Peak park to do my Photo Booth project, but for some reason,I could not go there. Then my friend Alexis and I went to Discover Lake park. I finished my project there.
At first I felt so embarrassed and I didn’t want to ask the strangers if I could take photos of them. When I first tried it, the first stranger was very willing to help us with the project, so I was encouraged and I began to have confidence to ask the next person.
There are a lot of people who feel that I take pictures of them, then they can get some snacks, which is a good deal.
There were also some strangers, they just wanted to help me with the project, they didn’t take any snacks.
I asked 25 strangers to do this project, and three or four of them said they didn’t want to be photographed. Although this made me feel a little bit depressed, I said “thank you” to them.
This shooting program lasted for nearly two hours. It was a tough time, but I think this program is meaningful. I like it. In my opinion, this project gives me a chance to try to communicate with strangers and to get to know them.
I came to the conclusion through this project which is a lot of people like Kit Kat over Hershey’s chocolate. Because at the end of the shooting program, I checked bags of free snacks that I prepared. I found that the bag of Kit Kat was empty, but there was still a lot of chocolate left in the Hershey’s bag.
